Partner Joseph’s Parental Leave: Supporting His Family and Shaping His Choice of Employer

Canadian partner Joseph shares his experience taking parental leave after the birth of his second daughter, explaining how the benefits provided the security he needed to truly step away from work and care for his family.

Benefits as a Reason to Return

Joseph worked at Starbucks as a teenager and rejoined in 2025. During recruitment, he learned about the parental-leave income top-up and felt that it brought the company’s values more closely in line with his family’s needs.

Protected Time Away

The official website states that, starting in April 2025, benefits-eligible hourly retail partners with at least six months of continuous service may receive up to 12 weeks of parental-leave top-up, bringing their combined income with government programs to as much as 100% of average earnings. This article documents a personal experience from 2026.
