Japan sells Sweet Potato Milk from September 18; a Tall costs JPY 618 for takeaway

Starbucks Japan announced on September 17 that Mitsuimo Milk (Sweet Potato Milk) launches on September 18 at stores nationwide, excluding some locations. It combines Beniharuka sweet potato paste with milk. A Tall costs JPY 618 for takeaway or JPY 630 for dine-in, tax included. Temporary stockouts or an early end to sales are possible. The sweet potato Frappuccino and mousse tea latte introduced on September 2 are not new products launching alongside it.

Japan Rewards membership reaches 20.7 million; provisional members can order before registering

Japan’s official announcement on September 16 puts Rewards membership at 20.7 million as of the end of August. Provisional membership became available on September 9, with promotion from September 17, allowing mobile ordering before full registration. PayPay mobile payments have been supported since August 18, not first introduced on the announcement date. PayPay and Apple Pay payments do not earn Stars. Provisional members cannot transfer balances or Stars between devices; benefit redemption and balance protection require full registration.

Japan’s Hummingbird Program raises JPY 16,838,438 in 2026

Starbucks Japan released its 2026 Hummingbird Program report on September 18. Donations totaling JPY 16,838,438 support initiatives including Chance for Children’s scholarships for children’s experiential activities. Separately, some Japanese stores held children’s activities from August 2 to September 1, including sign-language coffee at the Kamakura Onarimachi store. These store activities are independent, do not use the program’s donations and must not be presented as starting on September 18.
