Japan's Hummingbird Program raises ¥16.838 million in fiscal 2026; stores offer sign-language activities for children

On September 18, Starbucks Japan published its fiscal 2026 report for the Hummingbird Program, now in its 15th year. Donations totaled ¥16,838,438 and will support experience scholarships for children and other initiatives run by the public-interest association Chance for Children (CFC). Selected stores in Japan separately held children's activities from August 2 to September 1. These are Starbucks' own initiatives and do not use Hummingbird donations. The report describes a sign-language café held at the Kamakura Onarimachi store in late August: partner Takahama helped children of different ages learn to sign their names and order drinks, and introduced the experience of hearing impairment.

Annual donations and support for children's experiences

Fiscal 2026 donations totaled ¥16,838,438 for CFC's experience scholarships for children and other projects. The program began in fiscal 2012 by supporting further education for children who lost parents in the Great East Japan Earthquake, then expanded nationwide. Since fiscal 2022, all donations have gone to CFC.

Selected stores in Japan held children's activities from August 2 to September 1 without using Hummingbird donations. In late August, the Kamakura Onarimachi store ran age-group sessions on signing names, ordering drinks and learning about hearing impairment. Partner Takahama, who planned the event, was also a member of the women's volleyball gold-medal team at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.
