Japan showcases eight art-themed stores, from galleries and murals to local crafts
An art journey through eight existing stores
Starbucks Japan introduces eight existing stores where visitors can enjoy art over coffee, including galleries, murals, sculptures and local crafts. The article is a travel and store-art guide, not an announcement of eight simultaneous openings. Artwork displays and opening hours may change.
Tokyo Yanaka Otenzaka: coffee meets a gallery
Opened in March 2026, the store's gallery is curated and operated by ArtSticker, rotating works through themed exhibitions and other formats. The four-person group exhibition “Blend of Four” runs from October 16, 2026, to January 17, 2027.
Kyoto BAL: a shared studio for more than 30 artists
The third-floor store at Kyoto BAL brings together works by more than 30 artists. The space and project were designed by Sandwich, led by Kohei Nawa, with curating by “鬼大名,” a group comprising Kengo Kito, Daisuke Ohba and Kohei Nawa.
Hokkaido F Village: a ballpark and a mural tracing coffee's journey
The store's original mural by OVER ALLs combines coffee's journey from fruit to cup with Hokkaido landscapes and ballpark scenes, incorporating baseballs and coffee cups into the imagery.
Ginza Marronnier-dori: art shaped by tea, fruit and handcrafted materials
The tea-focused store displays works by Mariko Kobayashi inspired by tea leaves, fruit and herbs, combining dyeing and weaving, embroidery, knitting and painting. The tea room also features collages by HERALBONY-represented artist 藤田望人 and handmade lighting using washi paper and other materials.
Kanazawa Rinto West Entrance: a quetzal made from Kutani ware and washed-up waste
Yodogawa Technique created Guatemala's national bird, the quetzal, from Kutani ware fragments and waste washed ashore, linking Kanazawa craftsmanship with a coffee-growing origin. The work reflects the artist's residency approach of using local waste materials and engaging with residents.
Takefu Central Park: Echizen washi paper and local art
The bar ceiling uses Echizen washi paper, connecting the circular movements of pour-over coffee with the bonds between people and place. Echizen artist 梅田晏慈 created original works exploring the meeting of coffee and the local area, curated by Get in touch.
Shinshu Zenkoji Nakamise-dori: white hollyhocks on black plaster walls
The store explores liveliness and stillness, light and shadow. White hollyhocks are painted on black plaster walls, while the courtyard holds an approximately four-meter-long tapestry depicting coffee flowers and fruit alongside Nagano's mountains. Both were created by artist ヨザン弥江子.
Beppu Park: bamboo lighting, sculpture and local creators
Built around the “Layered Aroma” concept of interweaving hot-spring steam and coffee aromas, the store displays Beppu bamboo lighting and a metal sculpture over two meters tall by 桑原ひな乃. It also features works by 姬野晓, 久门健太 and 小野雅大, curated by Get in touch.
