Starbucks Japan children's summer experiences: disaster preparedness in Yokohama, sanshin in Okinawa and piano in Nagoya

On September 18, Starbucks Japan introduced its Hummingbird Experience Community Connection. From August 2 to September 1, selected stores used partners' skills to offer children experiences in art, crafts, music and sign language. The article details three August activities: Yokohama Bay Quarter worked with the Yokohama Fire Bureau on emergency-call practice, CPR and disaster lanterns; ABLO Uruma in Okinawa invited a local youth association to teach sanshin and perform Eisa; and APITA Nagakute in Nagoya offered piano lessons for children of different levels, led by a partner studying piano. The article looks back at summer activities and does not describe a project newly launched on September 18.

Summer experience program

From August 2 to September 1, selected stores in Japan used partners' skills to provide children with out-of-school experiences in art, crafts, music and sign language, addressing gaps in summer experience opportunities that can arise from family circumstances.

Yokohama: disaster-preparedness experience

On August 21, Yokohama Bay Quarter worked with the Yokohama Fire Bureau to offer elementary-school-age and younger children emergency-call practice, CPR and disaster-lantern making, with no reservation required to make participation easier.

Okinawa: sanshin and Eisa

On August 21, ABLO Uruma in Okinawa invited the local Goya Youth Association so children and other visitors could practice the sanshin and watch an Eisa performance, helping younger generations encounter local traditional culture.

Nagoya: children's piano lessons

Over three days in August, a piano-major partner at APITA Nagakute in Nagoya brought a keyboard and made note-label stickers, providing individual lessons for beginners and children who wanted to improve.
